Classified as vulnerable due to the increasing conflict with human populations taking over more and more elephant habitat.  Poaching for ivory is an additional threat that is placing the elephant’s future at risk.  Defenders of wildlife are working to maintain a ban on ivory as well as regulations that govern worldwide elephant protection.
